Yeah, but when you post some shounen-ai art in your gallery, clearly labeled 'YAOI' and you get attack-spammed with 'HOMGFAGS' and 'EWWWWW' from idiots... sometimes it just makes you feel a bit better to rant.
And the only reason there's such a big fuss about it is BECAUSE of that.
I understand that. But the same can be said when people like myself say, "I don't like yaoi," and stupid people then scream, "OMG your homophobic!" when in actuality I'm not.
I just believe that if yaoi wasn't so obsessed over, at least the idiots who hate homosexuality because "it's flaunted and obsessed over" would shut up. Am I wrong there?
(When I say "fussed over," I mean "obsessed over." Sorry if I caused confusion.)
Eh, I suppose. I personally wouldn't say that someone not liking yaoi or yuri would make them homophobic Oo; People are dumb.
To each his own though, I just don't want to be flamed for liking something others don't, which is the main point of this stamp xD
I think what I'm trying to say is that if people don't like yaoi, then they shouldn't run around going OMG NASTY or whatever. I don't particularly care for yuri, but I still comment and crit - especially if the art is well done.
I guess it just takes a person willing to look past the subject matter of the piece and looking at the artistic/aesthetic value of it.
It's not like I don't like het too, and I do understand what you're saying.
I just want everybody to get along XD
And I'll shut up now and stop spamming poor Luperus' board. ♥
Maybe you wouldn't, but unfortunately, it what a lot of people like me get. What makes it extra funny is that I'm called homophobic by yaoi fangirls who in actuality hate the idea of two men together in real life. >_0
Yes, I understand that a lot of yaoi supporters and artists get a lot of shit. I agree, it's stupid, because if seeing two men/women together is wrong, so is seeing a man and a woman together. At the same time, though, yaoi supporters are often putting themselves in a position to be flamed by putting their art out there. It's going to happen, unfortunately. It's just how things are. (And think of how the poor yuri supporters feel - almost no one likes yuri, even so-called "open-minded" yaoi fans are often against it.)
When it comes to flaming, in the end, if someone flames someone else's art over the sexual orientation depicted, they're not worth listening to. It's simply my opinion that yaoi gets way too much attention, and that is personally why I dislike it and can understand why others, who feel the same way I do, might do the the immature thing and flame someone.
indeed they do, it seems people are ignorant of all the warnings of 'hey look! Gay guys/girls! No likey, no clickie' and do anyway to just leave nasty comments... eh... as soon as that new law about inciting homophobic hatred is introduced the better >> XD

While raised straight, I've found that since having several gay friends all of whom I love dearly (and one who I fell out of touch with and miss terribly), the prospect of being homophobic is truly a new concept that deviantART brought on. It's pathetic, really. One would benefit from reading the artist's comments. They're there for a purpose.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
